Laxmi KC is currently in residence at the Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara as she finishes her master’s in paediatrics. Raised in a small town outside Kathmandu, Laxmi received her tuition for medical school through an NGO founded by a Canadian nurse, Mary McWhirter. 

Because of cultural and economic conditions in Nepal, it can be very difficult for teens, especially young women, to pursue higher education after high school.
